Each year the popularity of canoeing, kayaking, and tubing on the Kiskiminetas (the Kiski) River has grown. The river is a good novice and family kayak and canoe river. It is classified as a Class 1 river, meaning that it has a few riffles and small waves. Float speed is approximately 2 to 4 miles per hour.  The Roaring Run trail follows the Kiski for five miles from the Edmon parking lot to the Roaring Run parking lot.

Roaring Run offers a concrete boat launch with ample parking, providing paddlers easy access to the river. The launch can be a destination when paddling downstream from Avonmore or Saltsburg, or a starting point when paddling downstream to Vandergrift, Leechburg, or even to where it flows into the Allegheny River at Schenley.
Please Note that a locked gate exists at the top of the boat launch to ensure river access by swift water rescue teams during an emergency. There is plenty of room to carry kayaks, canoes, rafts, and tubes around the gate to the river.
